Advanced Energy understands that handing a community a list of recommendations does not solve all of the challenges that must be overcome to move electric transportation forward; however, we help define ways to accomplish tasks smarter.

The electric transportation experts at Advanced Energy are working to assist municipalities, utilities, charging station vendors and all stakeholders in a community understanding, planning for and implementing electric transportation initiatives. As your trusted resource for advancing electric transportation, we can assist you in creating a strong foundation for successful integration through:

  • Consulting and Planning
  • Education and Outreach
  • Technology Evaluation

Consulting and Planning
It is not a question of if plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) are adopted into mainstream culture – it is knowing that your local government, public utilities, permitting offices, electricians and code inspectors and other key stakeholders will be ready to support the demand as it occurs.

Furthermore, there is more to successfully implementing electric transportation than just installing charging stations. In fact, communities and municipalities should be wary of installing free or low-cost systems without proper planning and a clear understanding of the associated implications.

Advanced Energy helps communities with all aspects of planning and preparing for the expected influx of PEVs, including best practices on installation, codes, standards, permitting and inspections, as well as information on municipal and utility involvement, and community outreach and education. For more than 10 years, Advanced Energy's Electric Transportation sector has been collaborating with stakeholders across the United States in PEV initiatives. We share our expertise with you to simplify the integration of electric transportation into your community.

We can help you prepare for the road ahead supporting an array of services such as:

  • Community and Corporate PEV Planning
  • Stakeholder Development
  • Site Selection and Assessments
  • Codes and Standards Guidance
  • Roadmap development
  • Decision Support

Education and Outreach
Education and outreach efforts are integral components to any community planning effort. From workshops and webinars to educational forums and best practices guides, Advanced Energy works with our partners to develop educational tools and outreach efforts to reach targeted audiences.

We have developed and implemented extensive education and outreach programs. We work closely with clients to tailor an education and outreach campaign based on their specific needs and goals. We offer coordination and leadership in collaboration with clients to increase exposure by building enthusiasm and support for programs through outreach activities such as:

  • Guide and handbooks
  • Fact sheets and best practices
  • Papers, articles and reports
  • Newsletters
  • Media days
  • Stakeholder training and outreach
  • Webinars and teleconferences
  • Workshops, conferences and meetings

For example, we recently completed Version One of our "Charging Station Installation Handbook for Electrical Contractors and Inspectors." Developed as a best practices guide intended to ensure uniformity in how charging stations are installed across the United States, this hand¬book includes overviews, guidelines and checklists to help contrac¬tors and inspectors deal with the influx of requests for charging station installations.

Technology Evaluation
Advanced Energy serves as an independent third party for collecting, processing and analyzing a wide variety of technology performance data. Staff members are skilled and experienced in specifying test instrumentation, developing and implementing data acquisition practices and performing data analysis. We work with manufactures, municipalities, electric utilities and National Laboratories monitoring and evaluating the performance of numerous fleets of plug-in hybrid vehicles across the country. Through testing for utilities and corporations, we have evaluated conversion and original equipment manufacturer vehicles, Plug-in School Buses, as well as testing on ancillary equipment such as charging stations.

Most recently, we developed an interactive, web-based tool which compares charging stations from various vendors across the United States. The "Charging Station Technology Review for PEVs" includes an overview of:

  • Charging equipment and related systems/services
  • Use of "smart charging" concepts
  • Projected maintenance/repair schedules and costs
  • Anticipated charging station billing models/systems
