Next week, Advanced Energy employees are attending the 2008 EDTA Conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Stop by booth number 1327 to visit representatives of Advanced Energy and the Advanced Transportation Energy Center (ATEC) from December 2 through December 4. We would like to learn about your transportation programs and needs.
Hybrid Motor Development for Transportation Applications
This year Advanced Energy performed tests and consulting services on several motor and generator designs intended for traction applications. Some of these programs were on more traditional motor technologies; however, two of them were for innovative permanent magnet motor and generator systems.
All of these programs are intended to address aspects of the nation’s growing interest in hybrid or all-electric vehicles. As the tests required, we used our large battery bank as the power source of our DC generator, capable of providing up to 500VDC at 500Amps. Tests have been conducted to establish baseline performance as well as design limits of speed, torque, thermal performance, peak power, torque ripple, etc.
In addition to actual testing, we are providing consulting services in the specification and selection of motors and generators and their associated controls and drives for mobile and traction applications. These efforts will hopefully lead the United States to greater energy independence and a cleaner environment for future generations.
Motor Legislation
Advanced Energy has been invited to attend U.S. Department of Energy public meetings to be scheduled in early 2009. The purpose of these meetings will be to receive and discuss comments and information on two pieces of legislation for small electric motors test procedures and efficiency standards. The meetings will also include discussion associated with revising and expanding the scope of the existing test procedures for one to 200 horsepower electric motors to also apply to 201 to 500 horsepower motors.
2009 Motor, Drive & Automation Systems Conference
The 2009 conference will be held in Orlando, Fla. March 3 through March 4 at the Hilton Hotel at the Walt Disney World Resort. Advanced Energy’s Motor Systems Engineer Dr. Emmanuel Agamloh will give a presentation relating to reliability testing of small motors under controlled conditions. For more details about the conference or the presentation, visit the e-drive online conference program link. Advanced Energy will also have a booth at the conference. If you are planning to attend, please stop by the booth so that we can say hello.
